From the whimsically-named "Gaurd Duck" at Mental Militia:
I use cheap vodka to clean house. It has orange oil in it and both that and the alcohol are good degreasers.
It is called Burnet's Orange Flavored Vodka. Don't drink it, it's crappy.
Cleans the stove good though, and our teapot, and it even gets the smell out of spaghetti sauce jars!
It gets the tea stain out of enamel cups & sanitizes counter tops after cutting meats.

I am fascinated by infomercials, and this is one TV product that looks useful: Keep your lawn green all year long!
Just pour on some of the special "green powder" (optimized mix of grass seed and fertilizer) and water it. Go green lawn! On the environmental side, is should be noted that proper nutrition for your grass helps it stay greener with less water.
There is an indicator which has been around since 1957. If you follow it, it can see that it accurately precedes every inflationary and deflationary cycle since then. There is a video about it here --the URL is: http://www.ino.com/info/373/CD3515/&dp=0&l=0&campaignid=3
This is really the most accurate indicator for large cyclic trends. You want to watch this index carefully if you invest in certain stocks and commodity related markets.
Over the last half-century, this index has seen some remarkable moves both on the upside and more recently on the downside. I believe that this is the indicator that everyone should watch. If you trade stocks or futures and are interested in world trade trends, this is the indicator to track.
The tenth revision of this index renamed it the Reuters-Jefferies CRB Index (NYBOT_CR) You can easily track this indicator everyday using MarketClub.
You can learn more about this index from our Trader’s Blog
Here is a list of the 19 markets that are included in the RJ/CRB index as implemented in the 2005 revision:
Metals: aluminum, copper, gold, nickel, silver
Energies: crude oil, heating oil, natural gas, unleaded gas
Grains: corn, soybeans, wheat
Food & Fiber: cocoa, coffee, cotton, orange juice, sugar
Livestock: lean hogs, live cattle
Take a few minutes to watch this short video and see how you can benefit from this indicator. There is no fee and there is no registration required. Again, that URL is http://www.ino.com/info/373/CD3515/&dp=0&l=0&campaignid=3
Enjoy the video and let me know what you think. Comments are moderated for your protection, but we'll try to process them quickly.

My 100-year-old house is creaky, drafty, and uninsulated, but it does have some benefits. Not the least of which is the gigantic shade tree on the West side which drops its leaves as soon as the weather cools down.

Radiant heating is a way of heating the floors themselves instead of using a rush of hot air. It saves energy, and helps avoid air-borne allergy problems. I found a great ebook with radiant heating advice for homeowners.
Here are some great books on how to use Sprint picture mail.
This is the most basic thing that I do faithfully, especially since we don't have a garbage disposal in our sink at home.
Click here for several good compost bins.
We currently use a square outdoor bin, but I'd like to switch to a round/rotating one.

EcoCanteen - Stainless Steel Water Bottle
Use your ecoCanteen anywhere!
Going green has never been so easy! Plastic water bottles are consuming our landfills, plus recycling plastic is an energy consuming process, so use a canteen that will last forever! This one is high-quality stainless-steel which is much better than aluminum and of course plastic.

Maybe I should rename this blog "Geek Green" or something. For some reason my recent ideas have been about geeky-gadgety things instead of healthy, green things to eat or do. For instance this great gadget site called ThinkGeek--have you heard of it? Check it out: I still am drinking green tea and herbal tea a lot, especially hot since it is deepest winter here in southern California.
